A Passion for performance

Hi, I’m Matt, the face behind Fourth Wall Photography. The arts have always been a part of my life, beginning with my early experiences helping my Dad build sets for our local amateur dramatics group. That hands-on experience ignited a lifelong passion, which led to me gaining a first-class honours degree in performance design, and carve out a successful career as a lighting designer and technical manager.

My first steps into performance photography came when I wanted to document my own work. I found it hard to find a photographer who truly understood how to capture live performance, particularly from a lighting perspective, so I started doing it myself. My love for photography grew from there, and I haven’t put my camera down since.

Outside of work, my love for the arts continues. I regularly attend live gigs, once upon a time I drummed in a few bands, so I’m no stranger to live music. I’m often found behind the scenes editing music, prepping shows and running the lighting for my wife’s dance school. Our little boy is following in our footsteps as a budding dancer, so the arts are truly a shared passion in our family, woven into everything we do.
